Circular economy means a change in value creation - away from the linear throwaway society and towards a circular model. Raw materials are utilised as long and as often as possible and natural resources are ideally managed in cycles without consuming new resources. (DIN)
Implementation at Ebnat: The 10 R strategies:
REFUSE
-> Use of natural and durable materials (avoidance of inefficient and non-durable materials): Rhizinus oil-based plastic bristles, wood, PCR material.
-> General avoidance of harmful substances in raw materials (PFAS etc. "REACH directives”).
-> Avoiding outer packaging wherever possible.

REDUCE ↓
REDUCE (by design)
-> Sustainability starts at the very beginning, right from the development and design stage: Ebnat stands for quality and durable products.
-> We live by the motto "reduce to the max" – you don't need more, but you can't have less either (e.g. through material-saving design, use of mono-materials).
-> Material efficiency: minimum use of resources with maximum functionality. -> Packaging efficiency: as little and fully recyclable packaging as possible. -> Increase service life: Ebnat products have no planned obsolescence. -> Customer needs: are precisely analysed (no superfluous additives that are not required).

REUSE ↓
REUSE
-> Old machines are dismantled and individual parts are reused in new machines.
-> PIR recycling: Internal plastic waste is regranulated. (colour change of the injection moulding machines, faulty productions, TB rejects)
-> Carboard also serves as POS system (IDB DM, grill brush), strip also serves as hanger.

RECYCLE ↓
RECYCLE
-> Our products are designed as far as possible so that they can be recycled (if this collection already exists).
-> Utilise/promote material cycles
-> Set up and use of a Swiss PCR cycle with Innoway.

REMANUFACTURE ↓
REMANUFACTURE
-> Use of interchangeable systems (interchangeable head, Perla, Fusion, grill brush)
REMANUFACTURE | 5/6
RECOVER ↓
RECOVER
-> At the very end, energy is generated by burning the produc.
-> Ebnat products are all designed so that the materials can be easily separated.
-> If there is a waste collection system for waste recycling plants, this should be utilised.
-> At Ebnat, for example, we use our wood waste for energy generation/heating.
-> The bad alternative is to leave the product in the environment ("landfill").

With this approach, we are making the circular economy an integral part of our product development – from the initial idea to recycling. Ebnat products therefore not only stand for functionality and quality, but also for a sustainable contribution to the conservation of resources.
Materials
Plastic
Almost all of our plastic brush bodies are made from PCR (Post Consumer Recycling) material.
What is PCR material?
PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled. These are plastics that were already in circulation or used – for example packaging, foils or containers – and are collected, sorted and recycled after use. The material is shredded, washed, dried, regranulated and homogenised to produce a high-quality, reusable plastic. In this way, what is supposed to be waste is given a second life. (Circular economy)
Where does our pcr material come from?
Regionality and short transport routes have always been important to us – they fit in perfectly with our sustainability standards. We are therefore particularly pleased to have found a partner in Eastern Switzerland for our PCR material with the company INNOWAY (->innoplastics.ch).
This means: We only use material that was already in circulation in Switzerland. Using state-of-the-art technology, polypropylene materials delivered in pure form are processed and used in a new form. Short-lived disposable catering packaging is turned into long-lasting quality products – like our brushes.
Are all our products made from PCR?
There are few products that we cannot produce with PCR material. This is mainly due to the colour and material properties:
White products – such as toilet brushes, which are expressly preferred in white by many customers – are difficult to produce in the desired colour purity using PCR material. We therefore continue to manufacture these items from new material.
Transparent products – such as items made of polyester – will also remain unchanged, as they are made of a different material.
As usual, you will find the exact material information in our catalogue, on the product sheets and on the packaging.
Wood
Thanks to our extensive expertise in wood processing, we are able to manufacture brushes in almost any desired shape precisely and efficiently.
Sustainable through renewable resources
A central focus of our production has always been wood processing. For decades, we have continuously expanded and developed our expertise and manufacturing capabilities. This enables us to implement innovative solutions and respond flexibly to the changing needs of our customers.
Sustainability plays a crucial role in this. Ebnat has been FSC®-certified since 2005. This certification guarantees that the wood we use comes from responsibly managed forests and meets strict ecological and social standards throughout the entire supply chain.
Our beech wood comes exclusively from the Toggenburg region.
Natural bristle materials
For our brushes, we use carefully selected natural bristle materials from sustainable sources. They combine ecological responsibility with optimal properties for a wide variety of cleaning tasks.
Coconut fibres
-> Properties: Very robust, coarsely textured, water-resistant.
-> Use: Ideal for brushes and brooms for coarse dirt removal (e.g. on patios, in kitchens or for pots/grills).
-> Advantage: Very durable and insensitive to moisture.
