purus. – Material Declaration

Handle

The handle is made of high-quality FSC®-certified Swiss beech wood.
The wood is completely untreated.
The lettering is applied to the handle by laser, so no ink is used.
The handle is 100% renewable and contains 0% mineral oil.

Bristles

The bristles are made of bio-based plastic.
For purus., bio-based means that the plastic is not derived from mineral oil, but from castor oil. Bio-based therefore does not mean that the plastic is biodegradable, but that it is produced from renewable resources.

Here you can find further information about bio-based or biodegradable plastics:

We deliberately use a synthetic material rather than a natural plant fibre for this product, as we have not found the exact desired properties in any plant fibre to trim all three products.

Even though the basic material for PA 10.10 – castor oil – is obtained from natural and renewable castor plants, a number of chemical processes are necessary to produce exactly the plastic we use here. Therefore, 5% of the final product constitutes additives that have to be added to the plastic (e.g. colours etc.). According to our suppliers, these cannot yet be produced in a bio-based manner using modern technology.

Why do we write
100% bio-based, 0% mineral oil?

The bristles consist of up to 5% mineral oil. If we set this proportion in relation to the total weight of the brush, it is between 0.03% and 0.05%, depending on the brush. In other words, our products consist of at least 99.95% bio-based materials.
